This white paper written by Dr. H. Stuart Elway, President of Elway Research and Scott Pederson, President of ePredict.com discusses how through the use of Systematic Analysis an investor can improve their odds of making wise stock investments for both the short and long term. "IMPROVING YOUR INVESTMENT ODDS" I. Introduction Stock investments as life, can be viewed from different perspectives: the past, the present, and the future. The past in the stock investment game is made up of what has occurred to company x over its history. The present is a view of what is happening at this very moment in time including: what is the current stock price, new press announcements, product releases, how many people are buying their company's product or services at this very moment. The future is where the stock price is headed. The future is where the money is made for stock investors. ePredict.com exclusive investment service offers the stock investor the ability to analyze the past, look at the present, and view the future. We give the investor a three-pronged approach to making investment decisions. II. Fundamental and Technical Analysis Traditionally there have been two ways of trying to predict the future price of a stock: fundamental and technical analysis. Fundamental analysis looks at corporate results including income statement, earnings per share, balance sheet and the like to indicate the company's overall health. These results and their ratios can be compared to similar companies within the same industry sector or the overall market in general. Fundamental analysis has been the overriding basis for most stock investment analysis since the beginning of the stock market. Technical analysis, or charting, examines the stock price over a period of time to uncover patterns within the company's historical stock price that can be an indicator of future price moves. Technical analysis is not as widely practiced by Wall Street as fundamental analysis though there is a core group of investors who live and die by it. Both models of analysis have their own followings to decide future investment decisions. But aren't there other important analyses that can be done to decide stock price?
